Why do you think our science experiment below is called “elephant” toothpaste? Words are like toothpaste. Toothpaste cannot be put back in the tube. Words cannot be taken back after they are said.
Science
This exciting science experiment works great in a discussion on reactions, as a demonstration, or as an actual experiment. How to Make Elephant Toothpaste
Set a soda pop bottle in the middle of a pan to catch the toothpaste.
Mix these in a separate container and swirl together for a minute. The yeast will catalyze (or speed up) the reaction. Woohoo!
2 tablespoons warm water 6 o 1 teaspoon yeast Mix these in your soda pop bottle:
1/2 cup 6% hydrogen peroxide. It is important to use at least 6%. You can use 8% or more (available on Amazon), or you can use Salon Care Professional Stabilized Formula. 20 Volume Clear Developer from Sally Beauty Supply works fine too. 3% from the grocery store will NOT work as well. :)
4-5 drops food coloring o Squirt of dish soap Pour the yeast mixture into the soda pop bottle...and be amazed!
Social Studies
During Discussions to Share Each Student’s Story About Where They are From:
Active Listening: Encourage students to listen attentively to each other's perspectives, promoting empathy and understanding.
Mindful Questioning: Pause and reflect on the questions asked and the answers given, fostering deeper thinking and critical analysis.
Perspective-Taking: Use mindfulness to explore different viewpoints and understand the experiences of all people from multiple backgrounds.
Social Emotional
Find a Quiet Place:
Choose a location where you won't be disturbed and can focus on the practice.
Sit Comfortably:
Sit cross-legged on the floor or in a chair with your feet flat on the ground, ensuring your back is straight to stay alert and focused.
Close Your Eyes:
This helps to reduce distractions and enhances focus on the sound and sensation of the chant.
Set an Intention (Optional):
You can choose to set a specific intention for your meditation, such as finding peace or clarity.
Start Chanting Om:
Take a deep breath in.
As you exhale, chant the sound "Om".
Break it into three parts: A (ah), U (ooh), and M (mmm).
Let the sound flow naturally.
Focus on the Sound and Sensation:
Pay attention to the vibrations of the sound as you chant, and allow the sound to wash over you.
Practice Regularly:
Consistent practice can help deepen your understanding and experience of meditation and mindfulness.
