Lesson 4 - Create

The Grown-Up Scoop

Crafts are a great way to explore a book in a hands-on and creative way. For The Little Creek That Could, we invite your child(ren) to create a creek diorama. While your child(ren) craft, it’s a perfect time to spark a conversation with them. Find example conversation starters below!

5 Power Points!

Conversation Starters for Your Craft and Chat!

  1. Point out various items created from nature on your walk. Present questions that may not have definite answers but stimulate creativity, interest, and memory. I wonder how that got there? What does it look like to you?

  2. Which is bigger/smaller? A creek or a river? A creek or an ocean? A creek or a lake?

  3. What is littering? Why is it bad for the areas around us? Why is it bad for animals? Why is it bad for people?

  4. How do we “throw something away?” What is it? Where are we putting it ? Why? Talk about the 3”R’s”(Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). Name an item in your household, that your child uses frequently. When the item is worn out, not working, or used up, what could they do with it?

  5. Name something that YOU and/or the child did today that helped preserve the beauty of your surroundings.
