The Grown-Up Scoop

Crafts are a great way to explore a book in a hands-on and creative way. For Winter Lights, we invite your child(ren) to create their own paper quilt for the holidays. While your child(ren) craft, it’s a perfect time to spark a conversation with them. Find example conversation starters below!

Who’s Ready to Make a Holiday Collage Quilt?

Materials:

  • Scissors

  • Glue stick

  • 1 matboard

  • 3 pattern squares

  • 3 squares of construction paper

  • 4 strips of pattern paper

  • Crayons

Instructions:

Step 1

Begin by laying out all materials and playing with shapes!

Step 2

Next, start cutting out triangles, circles, squares, and any other shapes you like. Play and experiment by placing them in different ways.

Step 3

Once you have a design you like, (play with shapes or draw directly on the mat board)start to glue shapes onto the remaining paper or use the white of the matboard.

Step 4

Play until you have a design you like and use the strips of pattern paper to create a grid or not, just like an actual quilt! Happy Holidays!
